children's program

Hand of Hope reaches out to the many orphans throughout our ministry area.  Many of these children have been orphaned as a direct result of HIV/Aids.  Hand of Hope provides the opportunity for these children to obtain an education as well as have their basic needs met.

Guidelines have been set up to ensure that the selection process is fair and that we choose the children whom we can help the most.  All Hand of Hope children are required to attend school regularly.  Each child's case is renewed on a yearly basis once their case has been re-evaluated.  Bake Chenfo, a dedicated volunteer in Mega, serves as coordinator of the Children's Program and follows-up regularly with all of these children.

We will not commit to a child unless sufficient funds are available to support the child for at least a one year period.  We began in 2006 with 2 Hand of Hope Children.  By May of 2010, this program had grown to 30 children!

Interested in sponsoring a child?  $300 will sponsor a child for 1 year.  Please click here to download a sponsorship form.

Hand of Hope Children

Kabale & Kaliti

Kabale (below)& Kaliti (below-right) Galma were born in the southern region of Ethiopia.  Their father, Galma passed away in 1999 and then their mother passed away in 2005 after being sick for more than two years.  Kabale is 12 years old and Kaliti is 8.  They have an older brother who is in the city of Yavello, about 100 kilometers north of Mega.  He lives in a church run hostel for orphans.

Unfortunately, after the death of their mother, the girls were separated.  Kabale went to live with her uncle in Mega.  Kaliti lives with her maternal grandmother in the country side of Dukisa Ukele.  Up until now, Kaliti has not been able to attend school; however with the assistance received through Hand of Hope, she will be enrolled in school and begin her education!

* * * * *  UPDATE * * * * *

In the short amount of time that Kabale and Kaliti have been Hand of Hope children, their lives have changed dramatically.  Today….they both live together and through our financial support are able to receive all the basic necessities of life.

Both girls are enrolled in school and doing well.  Kabale is in the 2nd grade and Kaliti in the 1st grade.  Both girls have received medical attention that was needed, especially Kaliti, who was quite ill for some time.

Please pray that Hand of Hope will continue to make a long lasting positive impact on the quality of life for these two girls.
